

Outside you need to head straight out over the sand, dealing with rival Interceptors and a Goliath Tank down in the sand basin over the crest ahead of you. Use these to blast your way out of the hangar door, which becomes a theme. Follow the objective marker at the start to a bunker and use your Ghost to hack it and head inside, where you will find some Cabal Interceptors. Yes, you’re back on old Mars from Destiny 1, or at least a chunk of it, and you’re on the hunt for Cabal saboteurs.

Load into the mission and you may recognize your surroundings. Bungie has an official LFG page and the “ Destiny 2 LFG” Discord is reliable too. There is no matchmaking for this, so you will need to find some buddies or use an LFG (Looking For Game) site or Discord. It has a recommended power level of 1550, although you should be able to handle it at around 1540 (and maybe a little lower) as long as you’re in a fireteam with some strong pals. Vox Obscura is accessed through the Director in the Throne World section of the galaxy map. and give you the quest “Kill the Messenger”, which is the exotic quest itself. After doing this, Lord Saladin will summon you to the H.E.L.M.

It’s straightforward and gives you some decent loot on the way. This is well worth playing through anyway to see how the uneasy alliance between the Vanguard and Caiatl plays out, but for Dead Messenger you only need to complete the first week of steps, 1-7, grinding a few of the new PsiOps Battleground activities to progress the story. Going through this stuff bags you the Operation Elbrus quest, which is the storyline component of Season of the Risen. Then you get a quest called Rising Tensions, which sends you to the hangar in The Tower to see a confrontation between Zavala and Empress Caiatl about the activities of the Lucent Hive. You need to complete The Investigation, one of the earliest missions in The Witch Queen, so you can be introduced to Fynch, the Hive Ghost who is helping you oppose Savathûn. Getting the quest in the first place is simple.
